NFT platform and curated marketplace ArtGrails recently announced that Michael Cohen, Donald Trump’s notorious “fixer” and author of the New York Times #1 bestseller “Disloyal: A Memoir”, will display and auction the first page of his memoir backed by a non-fungible token (NFT) containing a video of Cohen writing the page at Miami Art Week.
The successful bidder will receive the original manuscript, which was handwritten by Cohen while serving the first days of his federal sentence in New York’s Otisville Prison, as well as a never before seen NFT-backed video of Cohen working on the memoir’s first pages from his holding cell.
Invezz talks to Avery Andon, Founder and CEO of ArtGrails.
Why was ArtGrails chosen for the auction of the Disloyal: A Memoir NFT?
I’ve been friends with Michael’s daughter Samantha Cohen for years and had NO idea who her father was. I was on vacation in Italy when she texted me asking if I would speak with her dad about NFTs. I said yes simply off the strength of our friendship … an hour later, I answered my phone and almost fell out of my chair when I realized who her father was!
What are some differences between the NFT categories of “open”, “gold”, and “grail” apart from the rarity level?
Political Intrigue is followed by everyone from broke college students to billionaires and everyone in between. We wanted to offer editions varying in scarcity and price, so collectors across the board can find an edition that fits their budget.
What do you find most interesting about the memoir to be auctioned on your platform?
We are auctioning off the first handwritten page of Michael’s memoir “DISLOYAL” that he wrote by hand while serving his prison sentence. ArtGrail’s entire philosophy is focusing on unique and culturally significant NFTs and given the political importance and widespread coverage of Michael’s arrest and subsequent events we are honored that Michael trusted us with his debut NFT release.
What is the most important contribution NFT technology platforms like ArtGrails make to the success of the products offered on them?
We have spent over 9 months developing and testing ArtGrails to ensure a secure and stable platform. This is all new and evolving technology and our job is to do our best to reduce crashes, glitches and any other system errors so that Collectors and Creators can focus on the releases!
What motivated ArtGrails to enter the political arena? What has the reaction been so far from the NFT community? Are they interested in political topics?
I want to stress that ArtGrails is NOT a political platform, nor is our involvement in this release indicative of any particular political opinion. We just felt that Michael represented a culturally and historically significant moment in time. I believe this might be one of if not the first NFT for a Politico, and feel strongly that we will see an influx of historical documents and even politicians entering the NFT universe.
