Joining the ranks of Coca Cola and Nike, Disney has launched its first official range of non-fungible tokens, Sky.com reported. While this is not the media giant’s first rare, limited product, it marks its first advent into the crypto space.

Collection features characters from Pixar, Simpsons

Disney released works featuring characters from Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and The Simpsons on November 7. The second NFT release was Elsa from Frozen the following day. They will close the sale with an “ultra-rare digital collectible” to be released on November 12.

Disney and NFT fans can access the collection on the VeVe platform, an app-based marketplace for digital collectibles. Disney is offering everyone who buys an NFT 3 months free Disney +.

Enter ‘blind boxes’

VeVe posted that buyers would also have the option to buy “blind boxes”. They will only know what asset they have received after completing the purchase. It’s appealing to the more adventurous, and you can never lose.

Disney already made The Simpsons’ Homer and Bart and Frozen’s Elsa available with the Pizza Plane Truck and Wall E, which awaits release today.

Disney to make Iron Man, R2-D2 available later this week

Apart from Iron Man and R2-D2, Disney will also make the Avengers symbol and C-3PO available later this week. They are launching an NFT of founder Walt Disney holding the hand of Micky Mouse as well.

Following the example of Asics and Nike

Disney is yet another huge corporation to embrace investments in NFTs. It has followed the lead of companies like Asics, Nike, Coca Cola, and Procter & Gamble, all of which released non-fungible tokens in recent years. Coca Cola’s first sale brought in more than $575,000.

NFTs: here to stay and gaining strength

NFTs continued to grow this year. NFT sales totaled $2.5 billion in the second quarter of 2021, up from just $13.7 million y/y. Facebook’s rebrand to Meta brought even more attention to this asset class.

Disney will sell its NFTs for $60 on the VeVe app. This purchase also comes with 3 months free Disney +.
